Goodbye Old Port (Again!)

Sorel Marina

Holly says:

We stayed an extra day at Old Port of Montreal due to weather. On our last night we went to the downtown area for dinner at another restaurant recommended by our waitress at The Keg. We arrived at Sorel without incident. This is where we will pick up the Richelieu River headed down to Lake Champlain. We had hoped to stay only one night in Sorel, but weather is not good today so we are here for another night. Last night we had dinner at a hotel right next to the marina; pretty good food. John spent some time today on boat maintenance and plotting our course.
Sorel is a much friendlier town that Montreal in terms of the boaters at the marinas. At Montreal, the other boaters were not very outgoing or friendly. Here, we met several nice people who were members of the marina and offered any assistance we might need. One couple recommended a restaurant for dinner tonight and then drove us to the place on their way home. They also gave us the names of a couple of marinas on Lake Champlain that they say are nice. There was some kind of festival in town with music and tents with vendors selling various wares. Our waitress tonight (and the one last night, for that matter) didn't speak English, so we made our way the best we could. We did enjoy the food, though.
Our plan for tomorrow is to go about 31 miles down the Richelieu and stop at the marina at Boleoil.

  1. Hey,
Great pictures again! Holly, I think I understand the sunset pictures.... A long day of working on the boat, worrying about the weather, the mechanicals, chartplotting the course, watching for debris, watching for shoals, observing maritime rules, dealing with currents, not fully understanding french, nasty locks..and on and on.
It's the end of the day and the sunset signals a peaceful rest from all the "relaxing" you've done all day.(At least that's the way I would look at it!)
Note to John.. Another route could've been up to Halifax and Nova Scotia and down to New York harbor on the outside...
Boleoil looks beautiful/ I assume you two will climb Mt. Hillary and take some pics of the river!!!
    Enjoy!!
